POSTURE

Sit in easy pose or lotus pose. Keep the spine straight. A light Jalandhar Bandh: with the neck long and the chin tucked in slightly.

MUDRA

Both hands are on the knees with fingers is Gyan mudra, the tip of the index fingers touching the tips of the thumbs.

Or place the hands in lap – women left palm rests in right. Thumbs touch. Men reverse.

Or women bring the left thumb so it points down and hooked with right thumb, right hand wraps around both thumbs and the left hand closes over the back of right hand and the mudra rests in the lap. Men reverse fingers and hands.

EYES

Closed. Concentrate at the brow point, third eye point.

BREATH & MANTRA

Listen to the mantra from a tape or chant it mentally.

Breath is done in three part:

Inhale deeply through the nose as you repeat the mantra three times.

Hold the breath in and repeat the mantra three times.

Exhale steadily as you repeat the mantra three times.

The rhythm should be right for your own breath capacity, so it would be slower if you can comfortably hold the breath for longer duration, or faster if your breath capacity is shorter.

Use a monotone

or kirtan kriya style melody

This is best practiced listening to your own voice chanting the mantra steadily with no breaks.

ENDING

Inhale deeply, hold the breath in for 30to 60 seconds, and then relax.

COMMENTS

The meaning of the name of this meditation is: a prayer filled breath that blends the three qualities (Gunas) that compose life. It blends the flow of energy in the body. The flow of the left nostril, the flow of the right nostril, and the central flow.
